Beverly Jovais and young horse rider

No matter what she’s doing — riding, training, coaching — there’s one thing Beverly Jovais of Chestnut Hill LLC in Santa Rosa, California, is known for: caring deeply, for both horses and humans. That’s why she was nominated by a client to be honored by the Boehringer Ingelheim Share the Care program. Launched in the summer of 2025, the program recognizes special equine caregivers. With more than 300 nominations, Beverly’s stood out because of her commitment to building a barn family committed not just to riding, but to holding themselves to high standards.

The client who nominated Beverly for the recognition remarked, “Horses thrive under her care, and people are drawn to her warmth and integrity. Simply put, both horses and humans love her, and her lifelong commitment to their happiness makes her truly exceptional.”

Others feel the same way. A professional trainer since 1980, Beverly specializes in jumpers, hunters and equitation. After a long and very successful career, she recently transitioned from full-time to part-time training and coaching. Upon announcing this change, letters came pouring in from former students, sharing how much she influenced their lives, both in and out of the saddle.

“When I think back on the many years I’ve been doing this, I think my favorite part is teaching young children the many lessons about riding and life,” Beverly says. “In my teaching, I try to motivate students by showing them that hard work brings success. That success instills confidence in them, which brings more success. The students learn resilience and how to bounce back. Life is a roller coaster, and by giving them really good coping skills through riding, we’re giving them seat belts.”

Besides these life skills, Beverly believes the community environment created by a barn family is important to the students whose lives she touches. “Another thing the girls learn is that I’m always there and the barn is always there, she continues. We’ve built a real community of horsewomen. As a group, we can provide a stable influence in their lives, supporting one another and helping one another through the inevitable ups and downs, whether they be horse-related or life-related.”

Another cornerstone of Beverly’s program is gratitude. “We know how lucky we are to enjoy this sport. And part of the program here is recognizing that privilege, and being thankful to the others around us who make it possible.”

While grateful for the students, assistants and grooms she has worked with over the years, she’s also grateful for the horses. “Horses are amazing creatures. The generosity and honesty they give is inspirational.”

The Share the Care nomination is just one way Beverly’s warmth and integrity have been recognized. She was also named the 2019 California Professional Horseman’s Association Horseman of the Year, an honor that recognizes not just her achievements, but the heart behind them.

“Beverly exemplifies the type of horsewoman we want to recognize through the Share the Care program,” says Sarah Happel, U.S. Head of Marketing, Equine, Boehringer Ingelheim. “Her lifelong commitment to mentoring young riders and advancing the equine sport is admirable.”

Beverly Jovais embodies what it means to Share the Care: a lifelong dedication to the happiness, health and harmony of every horse and rider whose lives she touches.
